Illegal Work
Olya Bezvushko

Do you know that it is illegal to work in the USA without Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) authorization? The exception is the work for your school.

If you do this, you can be arrested and even deported. You may ruin your reputation and as a result, your future in America. Do not work illegally if you want to get a working visa or a Green Card. Remember, that it is really hard to find “safe” illegal job, only if you have some really reliable personal connections, get wage in cash and are completely of the books. While this last possibility exists, many foreign students find an illegal work.

Remember, that:

     -  In case you get caught by the INS you will lose your status and may be deported.

     - If you use your Social Security Number to work illegally, this fact will become known to authorities, as SSN is only valid for work with INS authorization.

     - The immigration service, INS, and the tax service, IRS, developed a project that allows them to share their databases.

     - Violation of the immigration laws is precisely tracked after the attics on the World Trade Center.

     - Due to recent economic crisis, it is difficult to find job as the unemployment rates have reached record levels. It looks like the situation keeps getting worse.

Just for you, to know:

     - a number of people did not only work, but also lived in the USA illegally in recent years. It was pretty easy before the September 11 events. Now it is really popular among Americans to report on businesses and this leads to INS’s inspections

     - there are small businesses which know how to employ workers illegally. Even those, who do not normally hire illegals, can do so if you have the necessary connections. Some companies work under the table in order not to pay taxes. Such job is also illegal.

So, if you get a chance to go abroad and get education there, please, do not take a risk, and pay your attention to your classes instead of looking and doing illegal job.
