Get a Medical Degree Overseas
Olya Bezvushko

There are four stages in Medical system in the USA. The first one is a general undergraduate education that consists of basic sciences like physics, biology and chemistry. The second one is undergraduate medical education. You can get it in a medical school, where you will gain basic medical knowledge and skills, concluding with the MD degree. Third one is graduate medical education. It is better known as residency training, while which you are training for a certain specialty, like pediatrics or surgery. The last one is a postgraduate education.

The number of places in medical schools is limited. There are 124 medical schools in the USA which provide 17,000 spots. The applicants’ admission ratio is about 3 to 1.

You can get medical education in English in more than 90 other countries with over 300 medical schools. And they do not require you to take MCATs (Medical College Admissions Test).

Some of the abroad medical schools are absolutely free, but they offer education only in their native language. There are some, where you can study in English for a comparatively small tuition fee, like $1,800 per year.

You can find many low-cost medical institutions in Eastern Europe. Schools over there do not have some technologies; however they offer a lot more “hands-on” experience, so you can acquire more self-reliance as opposed to reliance upon machines.

As to after graduation, first of all you have to unsure either the medical school you are going to attend is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and is in its list of World Directory of Medical Schools. If it is, than you will be able to practice all over the world after graduation, but you will probably have to pass some local exams, like the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE).for getting a work in the USA.

Those students who are considered to be too old for entering US medical school, can try any foreign one.
