American cuisine

The United States is a land of delicious dishes all over the country, from cost to cost. It is impossible to be characterized in a single bite due to its cultural and culinary mix. There is no pure American eating. If you want to find American foods, either you see some regional things like lobsters and shrimps or pizza, spaghetti and hot dogs. By the way, Americans are proud of their diverse, borrowed cuisine. They consider this to be a measure of democracy.

Still, we can divide all US meal in two kinds: classical and modern.

Classical. It can be found on family dinner tables and restaurants in each region of the country. Such dishes make up a kind of standard or classical American cuisine and mostly hearty and simple.
So, the classical American breakfast have two variations. The first, heavy one, consists of eggs (poached, scrambled, fried and even benedict), sausage or ham, bacon, hash drown or home-fried potatoes, waffles or pancakes topped with maple syrup. The second – light American breakfast – corn flakes, granola, oat flakes, oatmeal and cottage cheese. Besides that, you can get toast, muffins, orange juice, tea or coffee for breakfast. Usual English dinner is called lunch in the US. It may include sandwiches (traditionally they are: chicken salad, tuna salad, ham, turkey, beef and BLT – bacon, lettuce, tomato), macaroni or cheese casserole. Deviled eggs and shrimp cocktails – are American specials that go for dinner.   

If you are a meat-lover than you will easily find dishes made of pork, beef, chicken and sometimes seafood in US. Consider to try: meat loaf (oven roasted ground meat mixed with breadcrumbs and seasonings), pork chops, pot roast (oven roasted in liquid beef with vegetables) and steak or fish fillers.

Ordinary American side dishes are mashed potatoes, rice, baked beans, French fries, potato or macaroni salad, cole slaw, broccoli and green salads with different dressings. 

Traditional US desert – apple pie is associated with true family love and warmth. Pecan, pumpkin, peach, cherry and rhubarb pies are also very popular.   

Modern American cuisine includes an array of cooking styles and restaurant concepts. In general it is a mix of traditional European and Asian classic cooking techniques.

American modern food trends can easily share the table with exotic dishes and ingredients from all over the world. The influence of Mexican and southwestern American cooking is especially strong.
